The flight is in a tandem two seat glider with an instructor. Launching is behind a tug and usually to 2000', where upon the instructor will release the tug and guide the glider around the sky demonstrating lookout and flight controls. Typical flight times are fifteen to twenty minutes depending upon the weather. Cost is £60.00 and this includes three months membership to entice budding pilots back to fly at ordinary club rates.
The day course consists of three flights similar to the single lesson described above and enables the student pilot to progress in controlling the flight and gain further understanding of what the sport is all about. Cost is £160 and again, this includes three months membership to entice budding pilots back to fly at ordinary club rates.
Every year we endeavour to run at least one week long gliding course during the summer. Normally it is driven by the needs of those that ask first, so if you are interested, then telephone on the above number and start the ball rolling. Obviously no previous experience is necessary, just the willingness to get involved and enjoy yourself for the week. Getting involved means pushing and launching gliders when you are not flying and visiting lots of pubs in the area during the evening - for food and company rather than the wine and music of course.
There is an entrance fee of £60.00 to cover the cost of the first flight and three months membership. All flights there after are charged at normal club rates, allowing you to fit your flying to your budget. A typical budget for a week to cover a further seven launches and five hours glider hire would be around £300. To stay B&B in the area for five nights costs between £100 and £300. You should book this yourself directly and the sooner the better.
